Plan a Journey - Help Page

The Journey Planner feature gives you the facility to plan a journey using any combination of bus and train within Essex. Journey Planner gives you a schedule for your journey which you can print and take with you.

Searching for a place to depart from

1. If you know the name of the place (city, town, village e.g. "bury st edmunds") you are travelling from type it in here. A partial search can also be performed. Enter "bur", and all places with "bur" in that sequence will be returned. Examples of these would be "BURes" or "BURy". When the Find Journey button is pressed, all place names for your entered letter(s) will appear. Note: do not include quotes when you type in this field.

Searching for a stop to depart from

2. If you know the name of the stop you are travelling from type it in here. A stop could be for example a street name, rail station, place of interest. To find museum type "museum", to find a hospital type "hospital", to find a station type "station", to find ALL stops enter "*". Note: do not include quotes when you type in this field.

Changing search entry

3. Press this button to clear the entries in boxes one and two.

Searching for a place to arrive at

4. If you know the name of the place (city, town, village e.g. "cambridge") you are travelling to type it in here. A partial search can also be performed. Enter "cam", and all places with "cam" in that sequence will be returned. Examples of these would be "Castle CAMps" or "CAMbridge". When the Find Journey button is pressed, all place names for your entered letter(s) will appear. Note: do not include quotes when you type in this field.

Searching for a stop to arrive at

5. If you know the name of the stop you are travelling to type it in here. A stop could be for example a street name, rail station, place of interest. To find museum type "museum", to find a hospital type "hospital", to find a station type "station", to find ALL stops enter "*". Note: do not include quotes when you type in this field.

Select whether you wish to depart or arrive at a given time and date

6. Select "Depart" if you wish to depart at a specified date and time. Select "Arrive" if you wish to arrive by a specified date and time.

9. Select the boxes for the modes of transport you wish to include in your journey request.

Finding a journey

10. Once you have finished completing the page press this button to find the places and stops that match your search requirements. It may not be possible to find your exact places/stops and nor will it make a suggestion, the data on this website only considers valid public transport entries.

Changing all your search requirements

11. Pressing this button will reset the page and clear all the entries you have made.

Including a via in your journey

12. If you wish to go via a place or stop then press this button. Place and stop search boxes will be inserted into the page. If you know the name of the place (city, town, village e.g. "Newmarket") you are travelling via type it in the Place box. If you are unsure of the spelling, enter the first letter of the place name, and when the Find Journey button is pressed, all place names for your entered letter will appear. If you know the name of the stop you are travelling from type it in the Stop box. A stop could be for example a street name, rail station, place of interest. To find museum type "museum", to find a hospital type "hospital", to find a station type "station", to find ALL stops enter "*". Note: do not include quotes when you type in this field.
